You Don’t Have to Be “Good at Art” — You Just Have to Show Up

One of the first things people say to me when they hear what I do is:
“Oh, I’m not creative.”
Or
“I’d love to try this, but I’m terrible at art.”

I hear it all the time—from kids, adults, carers, even fellow artists. Somewhere along the way, we were taught that art is only for the talented. That unless your work ends up framed in a gallery or posted online, it doesn’t count.

But I’m here to gently remind you:
You don’t have to be “good” at art to benefit from it.

In fact, the magic of art often happens when we let go of perfection—and just show up.

It’s About Expression, Not Expectation

The creative process is where the healing, connection, and joy live—not in the final product.

When you allow yourself to explore colour, texture, shape, and movement:

  • You connect with what you’re feeling inside

  • You regulate your body and nervous system

  • You make space for discovery, not judgment

  • You begin to trust your own voice again

In my sessions, there are no rules, no “right” way to do it. Every mark you make is enough.

The Art of Letting Go

We live in a world that’s constantly evaluating us—on performance, productivity, outcomes.
But art gives us permission to:

  • Be messy

  • Be unsure

  • Be curious

  • Be free

And when you let go of how it “should” look, you create space to feel, to heal, and to grow.

You Are Already Creative

Creativity isn’t a talent—it’s an inherent part of being human.
You use it when you cook, garden, dress, decorate, or daydream.
It’s not about skills—it’s about expression. And everyone deserves a safe place to express.

At Empowering Art for All, that’s exactly what I offer.

Whether you’re navigating disability, trauma, anxiety, grief, or simply feeling disconnected from yourself—art can help you come home to who you are.

No experience needed. Just bring yourself.
